Problem

Pakistan is a climate ‘frontier’ country; more frequent and sever climate disasters are expected and approximately ~33m people were impacted by severe flooding in 2022

This has had a devastating socioeconomic impact restricting rural-urban migration

Need

These dynamics provide an opportunity to formulate a long-term sustainable solution

There is a need to invest in building communities supported by environmentally resilient infrastructure and improve local livelihoods to reduce the ‘pull’ of city life and manage rural-urban migration trends

Solution

The Kafalah Trust aims to support this mission by raising funds and supporting rural Pakistanis by investing in

  1. Concrete and cement housing
  2. Concrete and cement buildings for school and associated infrastructure
  3. Infrastructure building for livestock

Our approach entails partnering with on-ground non-profits and local government organizations to ensure accountability in fund distribution; we also seek to employ flood affectees in the redevelopment to provide short-term employment opportunities and reduce cost
